Modular Resilient Installation Certification — Resilient Flooring Training

Modular Resilient Installation Certification is a comprehensive flooring certification course designed to further develop your skills and knowledge for successful installations of click, loose-lay, and glue-down resilient products. This professional certification includes both online learning and in-person training and covers essential topics such as product knowledge, industry terminology, adhesives, sound control, and product installation techniques.

This course is ideal for flooring professionals with a minimum of six months of experience installing resilient products. By completing the curriculum and passing the practical skills evaluation, students will gain the confidence and competence necessary to perform high-quality resilient flooring installations that meet industry standards.

What You Will Learn — Modular Resilient Installation

Students completing the Modular Resilient Installation Certification course and earning certification will be able to:

Identify locking mechanisms on click floating floors
Identify the proper adhesive type for each installation scenario
Determine necessary layout requirements for resilient installations
Understand terminology commonly used in the resilient flooring industry
Recognize general ASTM standards relevant to resilient flooring
Demonstrate effective handling of underlayments and sound-control systems
Understand subfloor requirements for modular resilient products
Successfully complete the in-person skills evaluation

Subfloor Preparation Knowledge

A proper installation begins with a prepared subfloor. As part of this certification, students also develop critical subfloor preparation knowledge, including the following areas:

Wood subfloors and underlayment materials
Wood subfloor design and construction
Concrete components and concrete subfloor construction
Common concrete problems and their causes
Thick pour gypsum underlayment systems
Awareness of respirable silica and safety practices

Subfloor preparation is a foundational skill that minimizes installation failures and ensures long-term flooring performance.

Course Structure and Certification

The Modular Resilient Installation Certification combines self-paced online education with interactive in-person training. The online portion introduces core concepts, terminology, and product information. In-person sessions focus on hands-on skills, application techniques, and real-world installation challenges. Upon successful completion of all modules and evaluations, participants earn industry-recognized certification.

Prerequisite Requirements

To register for this certification course, students must have at least six months of experience installing resilient flooring products. This prerequisite ensures participants are prepared to benefit fully from the advanced curriculum and hands-on assessments.

Sonny Callaham, Divergent

NAFCT SUBFLOOR & SUBSTRATE PREP INSTRUCTOR

Sonny Callaham has over 30 years in the floor covering industry. He started out installing multiple types of flooring in the commercial and residential markets. Currently Sonny is the Technical Director for Divergent Adhesives.

Andy McWilliams, Novalis US, LLC

NAFCT RESILIENT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTOR

Andy spent over 25 years in the installation field installing various types of flooring eventually specializing in residential and commercial Carpet and Resilient floor coverings. Andy holds numerous carpet, vinyl, and surface prep certifications throughout the industry. Andy switched over to technical in 2019 to become the Technical Specialist, North America for Novalis US, LLC., one of the largest manufacturers of vinyl floor coverings in the world. Andy is now the Senior Technical Manager for Novalis US LLC. In his role at Novalis, he works closely with research and development on new products coming into the market and provides product and installation training for installers across the United States.
