ARDEX Subfloor Prep Training

ARDEX Subfloor Prep Training is offered in partnership with NAFCT. This program helps flooring professionals build the skills needed for proper substrate and subfloor preparation. The training combines online learning with hands-on, in-person instruction to support real-world installation success.

NAFCT and ARDEX are proud to offer in-person Subfloor Prep trainings throughout the year. These sessions provide practical experience and industry-recognized certification. As a result, installers gain confidence and knowledge they can use immediately on the job.

About ARDEX Subfloor Prep Training

This certification program is designed to strengthen your understanding of subfloor preparation and substrate evaluation. First, you will complete the required online courses. Next, you will attend hands-on training with ARDEX, an NAFCT Educational Partners.

The course focuses on best practices that help reduce installation failures and improve long-term flooring performance. In addition, it prepares you for advanced NAFCT certifications.

What You Will Learn

During Subfloor Prep Training, you will gain knowledge and understanding of:

• Wood subfloors and underlayment materials

• Wood subfloor construction

• Components of concrete

• Concrete subfloor construction and placement

• Common concrete problems and their causes

• Thick pour gypsum underlayment systems

• Respirable silica awareness and safety

These topics are essential for proper subfloor preparation and successful flooring installations.

Hands-on Substrate and Subfloor Training

In addition to online instruction, this certification requires hands-on substrate and subfloor training. After each online lesson, students complete a short quiz, followed by a final exam once all lessons are completed.

As part of the certification requirement, participants must attend an in-person Substrate/Subfloor Training with one of NAFCT’s Educational Partners, including ARDEX. Certification is completed by passing the final online exam with a score of 80% or higher.

Certification Process

The Substrate and Subfloor Prep Certification Program includes:

1. Completion of all online learning modules

2. Attendance at hands-on training with an NAFCT Educational Partner

3. Passing the final online exam with an 80% or better score

It is strongly advised that students complete the online course prior to attending hands-on training, although the final exam may be taken before or after the in-person session.

Please note: Certification will not be awarded until all requirements are completed.

• Course Fee: $100
  (Includes online lessons and quiz/testing fees)

This course also serves as a prerequisite for other NAFCT certifications, making it a critical first step for professionals seeking advanced credentials.
